Independent Audits
Depending upon the effectiveness of your company’s annual formal code of conduct review process, your company should undergo a periodic independent “audit” of your ethics program and code of conduct enforcement by your company’s outside lawyers or independent auditors. This independent audit should be undertaken after your first year of code implementation (or reimplementation), and then perhaps every other year thereafter.
This independent audit process will allow your company to obtain unbiased expert advice on how you may be able to improve your written code of conduct, your code’s implementation and enforcement, and your legal and ethics educational and training program. Such an audit can allow your company to influence your employees’ ethical behavior and legal and code compliance even more positively and effectively.
